Clean Your Face… with Oil?!

Updated: Aug 12, 2021

I know, I thought the same thing when I first heard about oil cleansing. How do you clean your face with the very stuff you’re trying to clean from it? I had long believed that putting oil on my face would only worsen any breakouts and leave my face looking and feeling greasy.

And the more I researched, the more testimonials I read, so many other women who shared my same beliefs decided to give oil cleansing a try – and they were hooked!

This came about as I searched for a natural alternative to the harsh traditional facial cleansers I was used to. My face was being left dry and patchy, and I was struggling with breakouts – not to mention the list of ingredients on the labels. I had tried numerous natural alternatives over time, but still, nothing produced the results I hoped they would. Eventually, after years of searching, I stumbled across the oil cleansing method. Like I said, I was very skeptical, but I decided to give it a go. At this point, after searching for soooo long, what did I have to lose?

I was shocked with the results. My face was left soft – not tight or dry. It removed makeup better than any of the other products. After continued use over a week or two I saw a difference in my complexion. It was more even, and more healthy-looking. My skin had a glow. My breakouts were under control. I have not stopped using this cleansing method since!

The reason oil cleansing works, I came to learn, has everything to do with science! In this case, opposites do NOT attract, like, say, oil and water. Instead, “like attracts like,” that is, the cleansing oils gently dissolve and pull excess oil, sebum, dirt and makeup from the skin. Plus, it does all this while protecting the skin’s natural lipid layer.

When we formulated our Facial Oil Cleanser, we wanted to create a product that would be good for all skin types – including acne prone and mature – and would have healing, antioxidant and anti-aging properties. We first chose oils that are non-comedogenic, meaning they will not clog the pores. As an added bonus, the main oils in the formula are known as “long” oils, which means they will not absorb quickly into the skin. This makes them great for the removal of dirt, makeup, and excess sebum.

Each ingredient has a purpose:

Sweet Almond Oil: High in Vitamins E & D which are anti-aging, antioxidant & improve skin cell regeneration. Provides a luxurious silky feel.

Grape Seed Oil: Astringent, antioxidant & anti-Inflammatory.

Castor Oil: Draws out impurities, removes brown spots & aids in healing.

Camellia Seed Oil: Cell regenerating & great for mature skin.

Rosehip Oil: High in Vitamins A & C which lighten the skin, improve skin elasticity & collagen & smooth skin surface. Absorbs quickly for continued benefits after removing oil.

Two key essential oils are also included:

Organic Frankincense Oil: Kills bacteria, regenerates skin cells and improves water retention.

Organic Lavender Oil: Smooths & softens skin and includes anti-inflammatory and healing properties.

The finished product is a cleansing oil that goes on silky, is easily massaged on the face, and has a soothing and luxurious fragrance!

The directions for use are as follows:

Drop about a quarter-sized amount of the oil into your hand, then gently massage into dry face and neck for 1-2 minutes using circular motions. Once that’s done, drape a warm washcloth over your face and allow the heat to sink in. When the washcloth is cool, simply wipe your face clean! You can then apply toner, oils and lotions.

This method is simple and has become part of my morning and evening rituals. We hope you will give it a try and find a new favorite product to add to your skincare routine!
